Jesus said, “If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples. 32 Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”  John 8:31b NIV

WE live in a world where most of us feel pressured:

  • to prove OUR VALUE.

  • to constantly STAND OUT.

  • to COMPARE AND COMPETE.

BIG IDEA: I CAN NEVER BE FREE, UNTIL I UNDERSTAND THE TRUTH OF WHAT GOD THINKS OF ME.

O Lord, you have searched me and known me.

Psalm 139:1

WHAT GOD KNOWS ABOUT ME

  • My WAKING LIFE

2 You know when I sit down and when I rise up;

  • My WONDERING AND WANDERING.

you discern my thoughts from far away.  3 You search out my path and my lying down…

“The heart is more deceitful than all else and is desperately sick; who can understand it?” Jer. 17:9 NAS

  • My WEIRDNESS

and are acquainted with all my ways. Ps 139:3b

  • My WORDS.

4 Even before a word is on my tongue, O Lord, you know it completely.

  • My WORTH.

5 You hem me in, behind and before, and lay your hand upon me.

MY FREE RESPONSE TO THIS KIND OF LOVE IS CALLED WORSHIP.

6 Such knowledge is too wonderful for me; it is so high that I cannot attain it. 7 Where can I go from your spirit? Or where can I flee from your presence? 8 If I ascend to heaven, you are there; if I make my bed in Sheol, you are there. 9 If I take the wings of the morning and settle at the farthest limits of the sea, 10 even there your hand shall lead me, and your right hand shall hold me fast. 11 If I say, “Surely the darkness shall cover me, and the light around me become night,” 12 even the darkness is not dark to you; the night is as bright as the day, for darkness is as light to you. Psalm 139:1-12 NRSV

16 For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. 17 For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him. John 3:16-17 NIV
